Day 4

VISIT TO VITORIA-GASTEIZ’S MEDIEVAL CENTRE

Explore Vitoria-Gasteiz’s medieval centre which has been declared a Monumental Ensemble. Its medieval layout is still intact, meaning that a stroll through its streets is to travel through the city’s history as you discover the old walls, civic buildings, palaces, tower houses and churches that evoke Gothic, Renaissance, baroque and neoclassical architectural styles.

VISIT TO THE VITORIA-GASTEIZ CATHEDRAL AND TOWER

Now open for repairs, entering into the world of the Santa María Cathedral is to set off on a wholly new experience. Get to know a building that is over 800 years old that reveals the history and origins of the village of Gasteiz.

VISIT TO THE BASQUE POTTERY MUSEUM

The history of a trade that became an art form. The Basque Pottery Museum features an immensely valuable collection, with pieces from the XV century as well as a kiln from the XVIII century, declared to be of Special Historical Interest.

VISIT TO THE SALBURUA PARK

The hour-and-a-half visit to the Salburua Park features a circular route that highlights its varied habitats. The main attraction of the visit is the Zumas Observatory from which you can gaze out over the wetlands’ fauna and flora.

This cheesemaker produces Idiazabal cheese, with its highly-valued Protected Designation of Origin. This completely artisanal process follows in the footsteps of our forebears, albeit now under the very strictest hygiene controls, resulting in a product that offers the greatest safeguards.

VISIT TO SALVATIERRA-AGURAIN

Discovering the medieval town of Salvatierra-Agurain, walking through its streets and admiring its town walls, is to travel back in time thanks to its well-preserved architectural heritage. You will also get to know two of its genuine treasures, the Gothic paintings of Alaitza and Gazeo.
